In 2016 one of the goals I set was that by December 2017 I should be in the US practicing my Nursing and advancing both academically and professionally, but here we are November 2017 and I am not anywhere near the achievement of that goal!
Are you asking what have I done towards the achievement? Well, I have done quite a whole lot of things as required but here I am… In the middle of my thoughts and disappointment, God showed up again.
I decided to share because I know people used to count their losses/gains, successes/failures towards the end of the year and I know I am not the only one who set a goal I have not been able to achieve. If you are like me, maybe you have not been able to achieve all the goals or part of the goals you set for the year, God said I should tell you what He told me. If you are like me keep reading to the end!
Ok! This generation, we have developed a strong focus on goal setting. Whether physical, mental, spiritual, academically, financially socially, martially etc, most of us have the long list of goals we would like to accomplish.
But so many times our goals are just small portion or tip of what God desires to accomplish in and through us.
Just because your goals/plans are small/failed doesn’t mean that we should not set goals again!
We need to set goals so as to keep ourselves in check, for motivation, to stay focused and to boost our self-confidence.
We all know that an appropriate goal must have the S-M-A-R-T characteristics i.e (Smart, Measureable, Attainable, Relevant and Time bound) and we must write it down, even the scripture sayswrite it down (HABAKUK 2:2-3)
Was my goal SMART? Yes, it was smart but it still failed (at least for this year).
After setting Goals and you are out on track to make sure you achieve it, the followings should be in place too:
– Do not forget that your goals are only achievable when God is involved!
Because, ”unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain(Psalm127:1)’’ and he said ‘’You can make many plans, but the LORD’s purpose will prevail.(proverbs19:21)’’
Only God can make it happen!
– Spiritual goal should come first, why? Because it opens door of achievement for the other goals set (according to Matthew 6:33’’seek ye first the kingdom of God and its righteousness and all other things shall be added unto you’’).
– When you set goals, do not forget that you are not the first person to have this kind of goal, seek godly counsel! Some people have been to that place you are just planning to go! (Plans fail for lack of counsel,
but with many advisers they succeed. PROVERBS15:22).
– Diligence — due diligence cannot be over emphasized if your plan must work! ‘’The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty. PROVERBS21:5’’.
In conclusion, there is no goal that is unachievable with God! Because, with God all things are possible!
If your previously set goals and you have not achieved it, know that all things work together for good (Romans8:28). Know that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us!
Don’t be discouraged/sad/disappointed, set another goal! Do not allow failure to discourage you from setting another goal. (Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. PHILIPIANS3:13-14). Forget about your past failures; look ahead to the beautiful reward ahead of you.
Surrender your goals, desires and dreams to him and watch him in awe as He multiplies, expands and increase your influence and impact on this generation!
Allow God to shine His incredible power through us!!!
Remember the above simply can work for those who are in a relationship with Abba!!!
May your weekend be sweeter than your week….
Rest in Gods promises
