In the first post I talked about how foods that contain simple sugar can give one a rush of energy that can bring about temporal elation and hyperactive mood but when the effect goes it can affect one’s mood, leading to a mood swing.
Complex carbohydrate foods provide vitamins, minerals, and fibre that are important to our health. The majority of our carbohydrates should be from complex carbohydrates and naturally occurring sugars( e.g honey), rather than processed or refined sugars, which do not have the vitamins, minerals, and fibre found in complex carbohydrates.
Both simple and complex carbohydrates are converted into glucose (blood sugar) in the body and we use them as energy. Glucose/blood sugar is used in the cells of the body and in the brain. In case you take it in excess, the unused glucose would be stored in the liver and muscles as glycogen for use later.
I also talked about consuming more of complex sugars because they release steady energy that keeps your mood stable all through the day, so lots of people asked me for the list of those complex carbohydrates and how to combine them.
Well they are the foods we know so I will give few examples in the list below, but for how to combine them, you will have to contact me for a meal timetable (Nigerian foods only both continental and intercontinental dishes)… This is not free but very affordable.
So here we go:
- Raw fruits and vegetables( they provide a high level of micronutrients than the processed ones). such as apples, oranges, bananas, cabbage, cucumber, berries, tomatoes, green leafy vegetables, any kind of pepper, etc
- Yam and so on.

PS: People living with Diabetes Mellitus (DM) should keep up with their dietary regimen as prescribed by their dietician as complex carbohydrates could interfere with their blood sugar.
